BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa High Court has issued notice to BJD MLA Mayadhar Jena for alleged irregularities in the election expenditure statement submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The court has sought a reply from Mayadhar Jena, ECI and Keonjhar district collector on the matter within four weeks.
Earlier, Headlines Everyday had reported the matter how Mayadhar Jena made mockery of law along with Bollywood actress Ravina Tondon.
Headlines Everyday Editor in Chief Subash Mohapatra had approached the High court. He had sought the disqualification of Jena, who got elected from Anandpur Assembly constituency in 2014 elections.
Mayadhar Jena had submitted a contradictory statement to the ECI regarding money spent during the election campaign. He has concealed information on his poll expenditure.
‘Concealment of election account expenditure is amount to violation of section 77 and 78 of RP Act, which attracts 10A of RP Act, which prescribe disqualification of elected post’, said Rabi Narayan Mohanty, a Senior lawyer.
Mayadhar as a Biju Janata Dal candidate was contesting against the congress heavy weight and former PCC president Jaidev Jena. Former PCC Chief Jaidev Jena lost to Mayadhar from Anandpur MLA constituency.
